Racer Industries ready to take advantage of MARC Focus eligibility for Kerrick Sports Sedan Series

Ahead of the 2014 season kick-off for the Kerrick Sports Sedan Series in April, Series management have confirmed the eligibility of the MARC Focus GTC for the category.

The MARC Focus GTC will be eligible for both outright and Sports Sedan class honours, as well as a special MARC Focus trophy which will be awarded to the highest performing entrant of its type.

Ready to help interested drivers take advantage of this development is Racer Industries’ Ryan McLeod, whose business recently built and fielded three MARC Focus GTC machines for the 2014 Bathurst 12 Hour with all three coming home in the top 20 of the prestigious event.

While those three are now destined for overseas careers, McLeod is ready to create a new batch of the proven weapons for racers interested in contesting them in the Kerrick Sports Sedan Series, with the first expected to be ready for the second half of this season.

“We built these cars to offer a cost-effective and economical endurance race vehicle which is probably more achievable to own and offers high levels of safety, all in a convenient ‘turn-key’ package for the driver who ‘just wants to go racing’,” said McLeod.

“They are absolutely thrilling cars to race and will be competitive across a season not only in their own class but outright thanks to their mechanical reliability and long engine life which allows the cars to do 8,000 kilometres before needing a rebuild – in real-world terms, that is two Bathurst 12 Hours plus two complete Kerrick Sports Sedan Seasons before a major overhaul is required which is pretty much unheard of.

“With these cars we have sought to address a lot of the issues of ‘traditional’ sports sedans such as short engine life, difficulty sourcing parts due to the fact that most are at least slightly ‘be-spoke’ in nature, and the temperamental nature which often calls for drivers to all have access to design, fabrication and engineering skills to be competitive.

“With the product we are offering racers can turn up, unload the car from the trailer and race effectively in an exciting racing series nationwide and even compete with fellow racers in prestigious events such as the Bathurst 12 Hour, the Sepang 12 hour or Barcelona 24 hour – all with the same car.

“As a big car shoved into a small body, the MARC Focus GTC is an absolute race car, just with the added bonuses of being cost-effective, predictable, flexible, mechanically reliable and extremely safe.”

Kerrick Sports Sedan Series Director Rob Curkpatrick said he was looking forward to the introduction of the MARC Focus GTC and the concept of creating a category within a category thanks to the MARC Focus Trophy.

“These cars have been built for endurance racing. Essentially a reliable muscle car in a small body with advanced technology, the MARC Focus machines will bring something different to the Kerrick Sports Sedan line-up which is exciting for everyone,” said Curkpatrick.

“To be able to invite a car like this to our ranks and at the same time create somewhat of a category within a category is something we hope will help add some further spice to the Series, which in 2014 enjoys its tenth year of valuable support from sponsor Kerrick.”

The Kerrick Sports Sedan Series is one of the most exciting on the annual Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals calendar, pitting a range of ‘wild and winged’ modified sports sedans and trans-ams against each other. Part of The Nationals since its inception in 2006, the Kerrick Sports Sedans represent the fastest tin-tops in Australia and in some cases, the fastest outright cars on a number of national circuits. In 2014, the Kerrick Sports Sedan Series will contest five national circuit racing events across four states:

  • Round One – 25-27 April, Mallala Motorsport Park
  • Round Two – 13-15 June, Winton Motor Raceway
  • Round Three – 8-10 August, Queensland Raceway
  • Round Four – 19-21 September, Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit
  • Round Five – 17-19 October, Wakefield Park Motor Raceway
